[Cortex Prime] Allgemeine Diskussion

Duck:

--- Zitat ---Tabletop RPG designer Cam Banks licenses Cortex™ from Margaret Weis Productions, announces new design studio Magic Vacuum

Saint Paul, November 1, 2016 - Margaret Weis Productions (MWP) and Cam Banks are thrilled to announce that Banks has signed an agreement to license the Cortex Plus™ and Cortex Classic™ rule systems. Under terms of the agreement, Banks and his new design studio Magic Vacuum are taking over the design, development, and publishing of games based on these rules and spearhead the development and crowdfunding of new core rulebooks for 2017 and beyond.

This announcement coincides with Margaret’s retirement from RPG development to focus on her current novel and film projects. Banks is taking up the reins to develop and ensure Cortex Plus™ fans receive the foundational rulebooks for the Cortex Plus Creator Studio as well as new RPGs based on the system.

Margaret Weis stated, “I couldn’t be more pleased to entrust Cortex to Cam. I have every confidence fans expectations will not only be met, but exceeded by his new design studio Magic Vacuum.”

"I'm proud to take on the role of publisher for the Cortex Plus system going forward," said Cam Banks. "I spent the formative period of my game design career working for Margaret, and nobody knows Cortex Plus like I do. I know I can deliver the kind of worlds, stories, and core rules the fans have been asking for since we first published Cortex Plus games at MWP."

--- Zitat ---No more licenses, sorry to say. Those aren't part of the agreement and will expire as all licenses do. My immediate plans are to get working on those foundational documents folks will need in order to create their own community content, and that includes content derived from Smallville's Dramatic Roleplaying iteration of Cortex. I'm also going to be creating original IP through my Patreon and fueling those worlds with Cortex rules via Magic Vacuum so that there are also pre-made RPGs for those who want to see that.

More news when I have it to give you, but thank you all for continuing to be Cortex fans, and for your kind words of support today.

Cheers,
Cam

--- Zitat ---No effect on my day job at Atlas Games, which is a company I love and who is taking very good care of me and my family. This news is part of an effort on my part to stop doing small, whenever-I-can-get-them freelance gigs for projects that may or may not happen, and instead create my own stuff in my after hours and weekends. I'm looking forward to being able to steer things in a positive direction for Cortex fans as I continue to helm all RPG projects at Atlas.

Cheers,
Cam

Duck:

--- Zitat ---Cortex Prime is a new, updated, gathered-together edition of the Classic and Plus rules with a whole set of dials, switches, and levers that allow it to be more easily hacked and customized. It is being designed specifically to make creating your own Cortex-powered games, either at home or for sale via the DriveThru community content portal, even easier.

Cortex Prime will consist of an SRD (for those who want to hack), an actual core rulebook (for those who want to just play the game), and numerous sourcebooks and world books to expand the rules and options.

The old labels of Dramatic, Action, and Heroic, as well as Classic and Plus, are all being discarded for this new edition. If you like fixed difficulties a la Classic, they're an option. If you like pathways character creation a la Smallville, that's an option. If you like doom pools a la Marvel, that's an option.

Basically, if you want Cortex to work the way you want it to work while maintaining that same strong spine of polyhedral dice, plot points, and adaptability to genres, Cortex Prime is for you.

Chiarina:
Durchaus interessant! Mal sehen, was dabei herauskommt.
