--- Zitat ---So, after finishing the Blue Rose book, I tested the system by making a character. And, to my surprise, it worked really well. So well, that it needs a new thread to celebrate that... ;D

As it was more of a test for the system, the character has only a rough sketch of a background. I started with the idea of a "Swashbuckler" of some sort and, to see if it can be done, I tried to do it as an Expert instead of a Warrior. (Mainly because I like to play skilled characters and I wanted to see if it's possible to create a combat-capable skillmonster in Blue Rose.) I also decided to make it a Level 5 character, because I prefer capable characters to absolute beginners.

Looking through the backgrounds, the Vata'sha caught my fancy, creating the image of a scary, black-skinned Swashbuckler with close-fitting cloths and maybe a Rapier. ;D
Seeing how Vata live among humans and use a human background for favored skills and feats, I browsed the backgrounds and took "Roamer" as a background, because they sounded cool and I liked the idea of a wandering characters. Also, the favored skills fitted the concept, mainly Bluff.

The end product looked a bit different then what I had imagined at the beginning, mainly because the concept drifted a bit. What I ended up with was an acrobat and knife fighter, seemingly a pretty successfull one, because he ended up pretty wealthy. So not exactly a Swashbuckler, but instead a master-acrobat, a bit of a charming rogue with rather sharp senses, a quick tongue and a dangerous blade. Anyway, here are the stats, more comments below that:

------------------------

I was suprised how easy and flexible BR Character creation is. I like it how the character turned out, being combat-worthy without being a Warrior, having bits of magic without being an Adept and still being a quite capable social character. I like him as a Knife fighter, though I could imagine him later getting the Weapon training feat to get a Rapier or a Kukri. Originally, I gave him the "Inspire (Fear)" feat but later changed that to Crippling Strike, because I felt that it fitted the concept better. (Though I can easily see him get it later on, especially if he follows the dark streak I imagine him to have.)

If I´d really play him, I´d probably give him more Equipment and spend some of that Wealth on a horse and a wagon he travels in.

To sumn things up: I´m very happy about Blue Rose and I feel that is is a d20 system (yeah, I know, technically it isn´t, who cares...) that I could live with, that I could even like. I never really cared for anything D&D/d20, being more of a rules-lite person, but I could see me playing or even running a BR game. (Or a True20 game in another setting.) True20 seems very flexible and and not as rules-anal and tight-assed as regular D&D/d20, allowing a wide range of settings and character concepts.

All in all, I like it. :)

(And I´ll kick my friends ass who said that it´s not a good system. ::) )
