March 15, 2006 (Chicago) - FanPro LLC, the folks who bring you Classic BattleTech and Shadowrun, announced today an agreement with Sighpress of Germany to release the newest hit German role-playing game, Degenesis (in late 2006).

Set in a post-apocalyptic Earth, Degenesis introduces a new epic game setting: Primal Punk. This game features a dark future where Earth and mankind are literally evolving into a new order. "It´s an exciting setting where humanity itself is literally mutating into its own enemy, alongside the basic struggle to survive in a familiar but devastated world. We`re happy to bring another dark, dystopian, and beautifully illustrated game line to our publishing portfolio," Said Rob Boyle, head of FanPro LLC.

Since 2001, FanPro LLC has published and reprinted over 50 game titles, including the highly successful Classic BattleTech wargame, the Shadowrun fantasy-cyberpunk roleplaying game, and the fantasy roleplaying game The Dark Eye, a translation of the Das Schwarze Auge, the best-selling RPG in Germany.

Sighpress is an energetic, young publisher focused on developing innovative roleplaying games. In May 2004, the first print of the Degenesis core Rule Book hit the shelves in Germany and sold out within weeks. This game line, dubbed "primal punk," was continued with the Justitian City Sourcebook, a GM screen, and consequently the second printing - much more is to be expected.

Obwohl ich mich für die Macher und die Fans von Degenesis freue, habe ich doch einige Bedenken was diesen Schritt angeht.

Degenesis hat momentan drei Publikationen. Das Grundregelwerk, den Spielleiterschirm und ein Städtebuch. Da finde ich es etwas verfrüht bereits in andere Sprachen zu expandieren, bevor man selbst einmal eine Basis "in der Heimat" geschaffen hat. Auch ob die Leute in Amiland gerne einen postapokalyptischen Konflikt zwischen Europa und Afrika spielen wollen sei mal dahingestellt. Amerika ist ja bei Degenesis nur noch "Ashland", eine ziemlich kaputte Einöde. Aber immerhin erschließt sich durch die englische Publikation der restliche Markt in Europa auch...

Na, schauen wir mal was daraus wird! Ich wünsche auf jeden Fall Erfolg. :)

Wobei ich auch Scorpio insofern zustimme, das zu hoffen ist, das ide deutschen Publikationen dadurch nicht ins nachsehen geraten, aber die Jungs auch nicht zu sehr unter Druck geraten.
