Nin:
Kennst du das Stalker RPG? Dann schreib bitte was drüber ... was findest du gut? Was schlecht? Wie funktioniert das FLOW-System?
Steffen:
Heya,

--- Zitat ---So you want to know more about FLOW? Lets start with characters
I played character generation as a round-robin process where the players picked an order and they took turns. The first step is picking a role in the team. A role is not like a character class - it doesn't determine any rule interactions - it simply defines what job the character performs for the team and will assist in the later steps.
Imagine a caper movie like Oceans 11. An ensemble cast brings a wide range of specialist talent to complete a complicated plan and extract lots of money from a casino without being linked to their crime. STALKER can be played like this except that they are extracting alien artifacts from a hostile environment and fencing them to criminal parties that will not accept any loose ends as a consequence of their transaction. So there are plenty of feasible character roles.
Now each player gets to pick Abilities. Players - you will notice from previous gaming experience that Abilities cover skills and perks. So you might choose Driver because you are the team transporter and you might compliment it with Night Vision because you know most Zone Border crossings happen at night. There are 80 Abilities to choose from so no lack of options. Abilities are bundled into sets of ten under Attributes of which there are...eight. For example Driver is one of the Abilites in the Alertness Attribute, Xenotechnology is bundled under the Zone Attribute. Attributes have no role in character generation but will be important when you use FLOW to play the game.
Each player character gets 10 Abilities. As I mentioned, I played it as a round robin because there is a life path process. Abilities are selected; 3 for childhood, 3 for education and 3 for career with a bonus one for a hobby. So I did it in 4 rounds.
As a player selected an Ability they needed to add an associated Drawback. This replicates the balancing system of flaws that you find in most games. What I enjoyed is each Drawback is associated with an Ability so it will definitely have a role in play. For example, a player chooses the Small Arms Ability. They could choose a limiting Drawback by saying that they went duck hunting as a child. They are not familiar with any firearms more complicated than a shotgun. Or maybe they have been to war as an infantryman and are very capable with firearms but came home with PTSD. Or maybe they have a reputation for solving problems with their trigger finger and there are trust issues. Drawbacks can influence how a character can use an Ability or how others perceive them as a result of how they have used the Ability in the past. The Drawback might not even be connected to the Ability - it could be a consequence of the lifestyle resulting from the Ability. Abilities and Drawbacks interact in a fluid and interesting way that will evolve as a character develops.
So after 4 rounds of the table my players had set their roles in the team and had lifepathed 10 Abilites each with drawbacks that defined their capabilities and even linked several of them via drawbacks.
One of the things about FLOW at this point that will stand out to most players is that Abilites are not scored. You don't have Driver +1, hoping to eventually achieve Driver +10 so you can be a god of the road. Abilites are defined by Drawbacks and a player character either has access to a specific Ability.... or they don't.
So this rounds out characters. Let me know if you want to know more.
