In Root, you play vagabonds, outcasts from the normal society of the woodlands who have come to live in the spaces between, whether that's in the forests themselves or on the fringes of society. You are competent and skilled—you have to be to survive as vagabonds—and you aren’t tied down to any particular place or faction. You might be a badger arbiter, serving many sides in resolving conflicts and defending their interests. You might be a cat scoundrel, sliding on your mask before you sneak out into the darkness to cause mischief and mayhem. You might be a wolf ranger, at home in the wilds and the untamed places of the woodland.

Root is based on the Powered by the Apocalypse system used by tabletop RPGs like Apocalypse World, Dungeon World, and many of Magpie Games’s own games like Masks: A New Generation, Urban Shadows, and Zombie World. It uses the core framework of that system and provides a strong, simple way to tell your own stories of adventure in the woodland. You’ll create a character using one of several vagabond archetypes, and then you’ll take action, rolling two six-sided dice to resolve the outcomes of desperate situations.
Warum werde ich nicht mitmachen? Die Kampagne ist mit 1 Jahr angesetzt (nochmal zum mitschreiben: 1 Jahr).
Das kommt von Magpie Games/Truman und Miguel Angel Espinoza arbeitet ebenfalls daran. Letzterer ist mit einem anderen Projekt (Nahual) beschäftigt das höchstwahrscheinlich schon später kommen wird. Ersterer hat mehrer andere Projekte an denen er arbeitet (u.a. das massiv verspätete Cartel) und ist mir zumindest zutiefst unsympathisch. Desweiteren sind Magpie Games insgesamt nicht gerade für Pünktlichkeit bekannt.
Oh und Brendan Conway, der Hauptverantwortliche müsste seinen Job bei Cartel eigentlich auch noch machen.

Ich will ja nicht sagen "ich hab's ja gesagt", aber ... ich hab's ja gesagt ...
I don’t feel I am a needy backer, and I am annoyed at how this project is being run.
As a project manager, it is expected of me that I write weekly updates announcing progress, even if there isn’t any, to my employer. I feel frustrated when a campaign that raises over half a million dollars doesn’t feel dedicated enough to the financiers to share progress.
In the absence of progress updates, I suspect many (including myself) will begin to question the aptitude and responsibility of the project creators.
Even if this game is 8 months from delivery, the lack of connection with the backers leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I am fine with delays, and even “nothing to report” messages in the period between sending finalized content to manufacturers and when they can start production.
Can the commitment (not even made within this project) of monthly updates be counted on? What should my expectation be as someone who invested in this vision?

Wie der große Prophet LushWoods in alter Zeit prophezeite ist die Geschichte verdammt sich zu wiederholen ~;D. Zum Glück hat der Quickstart genug Material das ich bis zum Release (wann auch immer der sein wird siehe Cartel) genug zum bespielen habe. Ich nehme an um das meiste an Infos mitzukriegen über das Spiel muss man deren Forum im Auge behalten.

Tatsächlich finde ich das Rumheulen bei CF-Sachen ziemlich albern.
Also ja, es ist ein schon ein bisschen nörgelig, gleich 2 Monate nach dem Beenden der Kampagne nach den ersten Updates zu rufen.

The books continue to be refined and written—and in fact many of the changes and improvements that came from really scouring through the play materials for the book are reflected in the new play materials above. They’re undergoing editing and writing close together so we can get them done quickly.
Here are some of the other changes for you to keep in mind:
We changed the way Load works, vastly simplifying it. Now, you don’t have to worry about individual “weights” for each piece of equipment. An item is either “equipment” large enough to use up 1 Load, or it isn’t. Some particularly large pieces of equipment (with the Large tag) might take up 2 Load. And that means a vagabond can carry a Load of 4 + their Might without being burdened—so, a vagabond with 1 Might can carry 5 Load without being burdened.
Every playbook now has a “Starting Value” it uses to buy equipment at character creation. The amount of starting value changes a bit to match a balance of available roguish feats, as well—so the Thief may have the most roguish feats out of any playbook to begin, but starts with the least money to spend!
We added new Reputation moves for high (or low) levels of Reputation. If you get particularly famous or particularly infamous, new ways to manipulate the factions open up to you—from genuinely changing minds, to calling upon major faction resources, to wielding a fearsome reputation to get your way.
We changed the Travel moves to tie into the fiction more thoroughly. Previously, they drained resources and had interesting consequences, but the decision of how much of a resource to spend on the move was purely mechanical. Now, it’s much more tied to the fiction.
We adjusted Natures, Drives, and the Background Questions. We wanted to make sure that all the playbooks’ Natures can be fulfilled closer to the beginning of a conflict, so you clear exhaustion BEFORE getting into trouble. Drives were honed a bit to make sure they pointed at achievable, interesting goals. And the Background Question for “Why did you become a vagabond” was revamped to point at “Why you are a vagabond,” demanding players think a bit about why their characters continue to choose this life.
We cleaned up the text and framing of numerous moves, mostly weapon skill moves and playbook moves. The connections as well went through a bit of refining, to clean up and clarify the text and effects.

We’re working with our production company to make sure that we have a good plan in place for getting files printed and shipped, and we’re doing our best to get that set ASAP. As you might expect, however, this year has been full of challenges. We’re hard at work trying to move things forward ASAP, with the goal of getting you more digital materials by the end of the year. In general, that means we’re going to get you physical copies in 2021—later than we had hoped, for sure, but in the end our focus is always on making the best possible product.

Ich bin fassungslos. Wie können die den Scheiß immer noch nicht geschrieben haben?
Sie haben sich im Update ja auch schon mal abgesichert mit dem Verweis auf die schwierige Shipping Situation und so. Da kommen dann bestimmt noch Schwierigkeiten mit dem Drucker hinzu und ein paar Erkrankungen und flupps ist 2022.
Ab September soll das Shipping allerfrühestens losgehen. Wird sicher Weihnachten, vom Arbeitstempo und Kompetenzlevl der Firma ausgehend.
Magpie Games ist halt ein Saftladen.
Aber die PDF hast du schon bekommen, oder?
