Erinnert ihr euch noch daran, dass HDi, bevor die Webseite vom Netz ging, "Dystopia Inc." angekündigt hatte, ein Spiel aus dem FS-Universum zur Zeit der Ersten Republik mit Cyberpunk-Feel? Dystopia sollte die Regeln von d20 Modern verwenden.

Das Projekt gibt es noch, jetzt aber unter dem Namen "Sathranet". Und, euch Ketzer wird es freuen: VPS statt d20!

Ein Zitat von Bill Bridges (gestern auf der Dystopia-Mailingliste):

Sathranet will have a revised version of VPS, the same overall system but a bit more streamlined in the amount of characteristics and skills. We're still testing it, so I can't say for sure what it will finally look like, but it's fun to be tinkering with it again.

VPS bekommt also bald eine dritte Edition!

So es gibt neuigkeiten auf der Site von Holistic Design zu dem "FS-Vorgänger":
HDI announced the title of its cyberpunk Fading Suns game "Sathranet" at Origins by displaying the above banner. (Art by John Bridges) The banner provides just a hint at what the setting is like, but we'll be revealing more over the coming weeks and months. The game, set in the First Republic era of the Fading Suns timeline, shows us an era where the zaibatsu corporations ruled Earth and colonized the first worlds that were discovered through the jumpgate. It also depicts the beginning of a nascent religious movement that would eventually end the reign of the First Republic and send humankind across the stars. It all starts with a single word... sathra.

Holistic Design and DriveThruRPG.com will be offering the FADING SUNS Second Edition Rulebook for download absolutely free during the week of August 9th, 2004 to August 15th, 2004.

Hmmm... fadingsuns.com ist "down for maintenance". Mal sehen, was sich da so tut....

Nach drei Wochen "down for maintenance" kündigt HDi in einem umfassenden Update an, dass Andrew auf irgend einem Con in den USA eine Rede hält? 

Oder kommt etwa gar die "all new website", an der John und Bill Bridges nun schon seit über einem Jahr basteln? Wenn ich mich richtig erinnere, wurden auch Foren versprochen!

Hier ein Beitrag von Bill Bridges im Holistic Forum über die kommenden Publikationen für FS:

As you all have surmised, we're quite behind schedule on a number of products. There are a host of reasons for that, but I'm not going to get into them all. Suffice it to say that I spent a lot of time over the last year revising White Wolf's World of Darkness and Storytelling system, and I'm currently heavily embroiled in redesigning Mage (no, I can't talk about it yet). Andrew has had other pressing computer projects, as have other HDIers.

So, that said, let me talk about a few products:

• Arcane Technology: A collection of weird tech from a host of contributors, similar to Lord Erbian's Bestiary but for technology. Andrew is now putting the final touches on developing the book. All I have left to do is finish the Alustro's Journal entry, but I'm waiting to read through some of the entries I haven't seen yet, so I can add some pertinent details. I'll try to get John to post a cover on the site soon.

• Sathra Net: A whole new game set in the First Republic era. It's our take on cyberpunk, or what we think cyberpunk should be from where we stand in the early 21st century. It's still undergoing a redesign of some basic rules. I hope to post those Victory Point System rule here soon, to get some feedback. Otherwise, I still need to shore up the setting, which keeps morphing on me as new ideas occur.

• War in the Heavens -- Pantheon: Yeah, yeah, it's late -- real late. The problem is that what once began as a sourcebook/drama morphed into something more revolutionary to the setting. Also, Sathra Net has changed some of my thinking on certain core concepts. So... I'm waiting till Sathra Net is done before I get back to this, and I think it will be scaled down again from my lofty plans. Some of the sweeping changes might instead occur in another sourcebook -- who knows, maybe a 3rd ed rulebook? The system might need updating after Sathra Net.

So, that's my report for now. There are other irons in the fire, but I don't want to mention them yet or I'll never hear the end of it if they don't manifest soon.

Es gibt ein neues Produkt von HDi: Letters of Marque 3, mehr Deckpläne für Fading Suns und Noble Armada.

Wieder eine Mogelpackung, denn neu ist da gar nichts: Jeder einzelne Plan aus LoM3 war bisher in einer der Noble Armada Erweiterungen bzw. in der ersten Edition der Grundbox enthalten. Wenigstens kann man mal wieder Geld für ein FS/NA Produkt ausgeben  .

Es gibt was Neues bezüglich einer Bezugsquelle für Material für Fading Suns: Holistic Design steht endlich auf der Liste der Anbieter, die über DriveThruRPG.com eBooks als sogenannte "Watermarked PDFs" vertreiben wollen - das bedeutet, dass auf die lästige DRM-Aktivierung des Adobe Acrobat Reader 6 verzichtet werden kann, wenn man die eBooks lesen will! Noch ist das Vorhaben nicht umgesetzt, aber lange kann es nicht mehr dauern  .

Faul, wie ich bin, zitiere ich einfach mal meinen News-Eintrag auf www.fadingsuns.de:

Neuigkeiten von der Spielemesse in Essen: Das Fading Suns 2nd Edition Regelwerk ist out of print und beim Verlag bereits vergriffen! Es wird auch kein Nachdruck mehr erfolgen. Statt dessen wird bei HDi jetzt an der dritten Edition gearbeitet. Diese soll mit den alten Quellenbüchern kompatibel bleiben. Andrew Greenberg löst Bill Bridges als Entwickler des Spiels ab, Bill wird aber weiterhin als Autor für Fading Suns tätig sein. Wann WitH #3 - Pantheon erscheinen wird, ist unklar. Die Arbeit an Dystopia Inc. aka Sathranet wird, wenn überhaupt, erst nach dem Erscheinen der dritten Edition des Regelbuches fortgesetzt. Mit Arcane Tech ist Mitte des nächsten Jahres zu rechnen, die offizielle Ankündigung soll innerhalb der nächsten sechs Wochen erfolgen. Das derzeit vergriffene Ships of the Line wird sobald wie möglich nachproduziert.

Andrew has finished developing Arcane Tech this week (and I finished the
Alustro's Journal!), so now it's a matter of getting it into the lay-out
program and then off to the printer.

Ed's right (except about Andrew, who isn't working with WW but does have
other projects). I'm doing Mage at WW (and a new game called Promethean),
Ken is doing cell phone games and Chris is colonizing Belize in his spare
time. But Andrew and I are still working on FS, as is my bro, John. It's
just slow going due to other projects. Next up: FS 3rd edition, then WiH
Pantheon.

I'm afraid SathraNet is on hold until after FS3. We'll re-examine the project then. Frankly, working on a near-future cyberpunk dystopic setting was just getting too depressing in Bush's America.

FS3 will be VPS, with a revised ruleset. Arcane Tech (in layout now) is probably our last d20 book.

<nitpick>"wieder" stimmt nicht ganz, es ist ja ein neues Produkt, das sich von der alten Second Edition unterscheidet (nicht viel, aber immerhin). </nitpick>

Ab morgen (Montag) ist der erste FS-Shard “A Road So Dark” bei Drivethrurpg.com zu erhalten:

“This volume contains the adventure A Road So Dark, designed for a group of 3 to 6 player characters. In this adventure, the characters research a previously unknown night road between Leagueheim and Grail, following a trail of evidence to an artifact invaluable to their employer.”

Persoenliches Fazit: Ein wirklich schoenes Abenteuer, dass beim Korrekturlesen wirklich Spass gemacht hat. Leider habe ich nicht geschafft, davon zu profitieren, dass ich’s kannte, bevor’s greifbar wurde - aber vielleicht beim naechsten Mal. Fuer alle Freunde von kleinen, Grail-basierten Haeusern, und den Raetseln um Sprungschluessel, -routen, und -technologie. Sowohl als kurzes knackiges Abenteuer geeignet, als auch ein gutes “erstes Kapitel” fuer eine Mini-Kampagne.

Kraken's Loom It is the dawn of the sixth millennium and the skies are darkening, for the suns themselves are fading. Humans reached the stars long ago, building a Republic of high technology and universal emancipation—and then squandered it, fought over it, and finally lost it. A New Dark Age has descended upon humanity, for the greatest of civilizations has fallen and now even the stars are dying. Feudal lords rule the Known Worlds, vying for power with fanatic priests and scheming guilds. Fading Suns is a science fiction game of heavy combat, vicious politics, weird occultism, alien secrets and artifacts, and unknown and un-mapped worlds. The Shards series is a collection of adventures and encounters, intended as an inexpensive resource for Fading Suns gamemasters. This volume contains the adventure Kraken's Loom, designed for a group of 3 to 6 player characters. In this adventure, the characters search for a Hawkwood Count, a prominent diplomat whose ship was lost in the outer reaches of the Leminkainen system.
