Bekomme Beryl nicht zum laufen

Jo, wie im Betreff gelesen.
Nachdem ich immer wieder mal über Beryl gelesen habe wollte ich es mal testen.
Ich nutze ubuntu 6.06 und hab eine nvidia graka

Ich hab das howto bei ubuntuusers.de genutzt.
Jedoch bekomme ich immer den Fehler:
XGL Absent, checking for NVIDIA
Nvidia Present
Relaunching beryl with __GL_YIELD="NOTHING"
XGL Absent, checking for NVIDIA
Nvidia Present
beryl: No composite extension

Kann mir jemand weiter helfen?

Noch zur Info: Also der Beryl Manager läuft. Nur jedes mal wenn ich den Fenstermanager umschalten will, dann versucht er es scheinbar, nutzt dann aber doch metacity

Den Effekt hatte ich gestern mit Looking Glass.

Lag offenbar an der überlasteten GraKa.

Das die composite extenstion nicht funktioniert, kann auch an zu alten NVIDIA-Treibern liegen. Besorg' Dir mal, wie in diesem Tutorial geschildert:

die aktuellen NVIDIA-Treiber.

Die Treiber sind aktuell... das hatte ich selbst schon in Erwägung gezogen

Hast du die Composite-Erweiterung in /etc/X11/xorg.conf eingetragen bzw. aktiviert?

Das sollte wie folgt aussehen:

Section "Extensions"
    Option "Composite" "Enable"
EndSection

Das sollte am Ende der xorg.conf stehen.

Mmmhh... hatte ich nicht. Habs jetzt drin. X-Server neu gestartet. Beryl versucht zu starten:

beryl: symbol lookup error: beryl: undefined symbol: XCompositeGetOverlayWindow
Dabei sind mir meine beiden Leisten von gnome verloren gegangen und die Fenster sehen auch sehr minimalistisch aus ::)

Den Eintrag 'Load DRI' in der Sektion 'Module' musst du auskommentieren, der beißt sich mit GLX.

In der Sektion 'Device' gibt es einige Einträge mehr bei mir, die aber zum großen Teil mit der Konfiguration zu tun haben:

Den Wert für Video RAM musst du natürlich an deine Grafikkarte anpassen, hier sind's 64 MB. Die drei Zeilen danach sind wichtig. Die Sync und Refresh-Einträge solltest du auf Verträglichkeit mit deinem Monitor überprüfen, du kannst sie auch erst mal weglassen. Die letzte Zeile schaltet den Splash-Screen des Treibers aus, wenn du sie auf 'true' setzt.

Ich würde auch das Video RAM auskommentieren, der Autodetect des NVIDIA-Treibers liefert da eigentlich immer den korrekten Wert an X-Server zurück.

Vom Log her scheint auch alles in Ordnung zu sein (Bis auf dieses ominöse Wacom Device. Aber das hat mit hoher Wahrscheinlichkeit nichts mit dem Problem zu tun.).

So hab mal wieder ein wenig Lust an meinem Ubuntu rumzuspielen. Anderer Rechner, gleiches Problem...

Ich versuche Beryl auf meiner ATI Graka mit dem radeon Treiber und AIGLX zum laufen zu bekommen, jedoch will es einfach nicht. Wenn ich Beryl starte sagt er mir foglendes:

Das Problem ist aber diesmal ein anderes. Was für eine Grafikkarte steckt denn in dem Rechner drin? Alle Grafikarten aus den letzten drei Jahren unterstützen eigentlich npot-Texturen, also kann das Problem nur beim ATI-Treiber liegen. Hast Du schon mal bei Beryl geschaut, ob man die Unterstützung von npot-Texturen abschalten kann (dürfte sich aber extrem negativ auf die Performance auswirken)?

Gegebenenfalls musst du mal einen anderen Treiber ausprobieren. ATI hat eine unrühmliche Vergangenheit, was das Unterstützen und Nicht-Unterstützen verschiedener Karten angeht.

Und die 9600 macht unter Linux sowieso nur Probleme. Funktionieren andere modernere OpenGL-Anwendungen (also nicht GLTron oder Celestia, sondern Blender vielleicht, oder ein halbwegs aktuelles Spiel) fehlerfrei?

Ich habe ebenfalls Ubuntut mit einer ATI (weiß allerdings nicht gerade genau welche..kann ich aber rausfinden bei bedarf).
Jedenfalls läuft Beryl bei mir nur mit dem fglrx Treiber auf XGL, wobei du dann nicht das Beryl aus den offiziellen repositorys von Feisty nehmen kannst, weil in denen der XGL support nicht drin ist (warum auch immer...)

Die Wiki Seiten von Beryl geben dazu mehr auskunft..Ich kann dir leider gerade nicht den richtigen Link geben, weil die es bei mir gerade nicht tun.
