Giant Sand: Paved Road To BerlinLost, I don´t know what state we´re in
Lost not knowing what time we´re in
I find myself lost, doing much too much remembering
Like we were back on the road,
three years back on the road,
on the road to Berlin.
It was sometime in between these days of the locust and the night of the Iguana
When you handed me fragile faith and I broke it
Now I see, if you still want to,
get back on the bus, thanks to us,
we´re lost again on the road to Berlin
and we´re almost out of gas, riding on fumes,
but this´ll pass.
We were a couple of american rats without our month on sundays
when we get to a wall that seperates all of town and country.
One side revealed to us this big grey mystery,
both sides – we see – televise “Dallas” and “Dynasty”.
Back home the big tracks twist all around our place.
The sun wrinkles, crackles our friends face.
Every blue moon it rains like there
down on man and sand.
Talk about walls – Talk about walls,
They got one in ?
20 miles this side of mayhem
?
Talk about walls – Talk about walls
They got one down China way.
Last year the grateful Dead almost appeared there,
this year the Dead lie where they lay.
All because of guitar, because of guitar,
we´re come this far to be lost again.
And we´re so confused, so confused.
I used to be so ill at ease to cross the border to Mexico back home through no gales.
I´d get out to get stripsearched and mean gone ?
But if I get back, I´m going to dive across that border and surface sometime later in Tijuana.
I don´t know if it was in between these days of the locust and the night of the Iguana.
Now the big tracks still rumble and the adobe walls they crumble
And every blue moon it rains like here
down on man and sand.
Embarassing wall, embarassing wall,
harassing all that lives around the wall.
Kids kick a socker ball up and over the wall
to hear the guns go off and the lights go on,
for the lives that were lost
making they´re run from wall to wall.
Grafitti wall, there´s writing on – the writing on the wall.
